Brisbane Athlete Village breaks ground post Ekka!

Early works at the Main Arena of the Brisbane Showgrounds are kicking off the vision for the Brisbane Athlete Village in Bowen Hills and will commence after the Ekka in 2025.

The Showgrounds is the site of the largest athlete village during the Games and will begin to transform shortly, including restoration works on two heritage-listed grandstands and progressing plans for a 20,000-seat Main Arena upgrade.

As well as housing the Games’ largest village, the transformation of the Showgrounds alongside the arena upgrade will facilitate the growth of the precinct’s entertainment and events capability.

The legacy will include thousands of dwellings in inner Brisbane following the use by 10,000 athletes and officials during the Olympic Games and over 5,000 during the Paralympic Games.

This update will also improve accessibility across the site and master planning will consider connections with the Victoria Park precinct.
