Award‑winning team announced for Barlow Park Stadium upgrade
Shaped by the character of the Tropical North, the stadium will become a centerpiece of sporting excellence.
One of Queensland’s largest and most diverse architectural studios – Architectus – is the Principal Architect for the Barlow Park Stadium upgrade in Cairns. Designed to reflect the easy‑going, outdoor character of the Tropical North, the new stadium will capture cooling breezes and improve shade and weather protection.
Architectus will be supported by international sports architecture specialist HKS, bringing global stadium experience to the project. Additionally, local Cairns architecture and design practice Indij Design is a key member of the project team and will work closely with the Traditional Custodians to ensure First Nations culture, knowledge and connection to Country are embedded in the design.
The upgrade will deliver a new grandstand, improved amenities and accessibility, better facilities for athletes, and an increase in seating from 1,700 to 5,000.
Together, these improvements will create a cooler, more comfortable experience for fans and a lasting sporting legacy for Cairns.
