A new home of athletics in the Darling Downs
Proposed UniSQ facility to support local sport, schools and emerging athletes.
Through the Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program, the Queensland Government has committed $1 million to support planning and design for a proposed new athletics centre at the University of Southern Queensland’s Darling Heights campus in Toowoomba.
The centre is intended to support local athletics clubs, schools and community sport, while also creating a pathway for young athletes aspiring to compete on the national and international stage. Once developed, the facility could help the region attract more state and national competitions and would provide high‑quality spaces for people of all ages to stay active.
The investment supports broader efforts to improve grassroots sporting infrastructure across Queensland and ensure regional communities share in the long‑term benefits associated with the 2032 Games.
